AMCC Return to Play and Safe Operating Plan

Updated: 02-Sep-2021

At Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, we are committed to ensuring a safe experience for everyone in our facility, from participants to staff to guests. Now, more than ever, this is paramount as we all do our part to ensure we do not set back our community’s collective effort to flatten the curve of COVID-19.

For a detailed description of the specific protocols in place within our facility, please click the links below:

Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club has been working with Curling Canada, CurlManitoba, the province and health officials to ensure the safe resumption of our programs and services. We will continue to actively monitor the province’s Restoring Safe Services plan and guidelines and will work with provincial authorities to ensure we are following and evolving our policies and protocols to fit with best practices, as well as to provide the best curling and social experience possible while at Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club.

While some of the changes may present an adjustment and potential inconvenience, all new health and safety measures are essential to our ability to open our facility and run programming. For the safety of our entire community, we appreciate your adherence and understanding.

Our Return to Play and Safe Operating framework includes the following measures.

Physical distancing

Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club is allowed to operate at full capacity. However, physical distancing must be adhered to when possible. Normal pre-COVID game play is allowed, but distancing modifications suggested by Curling Canada may be mandated by individual leagues. Players are asked to please follow the guidance provided by League Conveners and Skips on any protocols to be followed for their league.

Designated entry and exit doors will be clearly marked with signage. Access to the wheelchair lift will be provided by a staff member only upon request so that required sanitation can be maintained. Physical distancing guidelines and traffic paths will be marked on the floor to better manage potentially congested areas.

Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club staff will monitor the physical distancing of guests in being serviced in their areas.

Personal protective equipment

Curlers and non-participating/spectating guests are required to wear a mask in all areas of the facility, except when seated to consume food or beverage in the cafe or lounge.

Use of masks during game play is optional but is still highly recommended. If you choose to wear a mask while playing, it is recommended that you change it regularly (when it begins to get excessively damp). Mask use also MUST NOT be your primary control to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We respectfully ask that you continue to follow all public health directives and the Club’s Return to Play Guidelines.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own masks. Single-use masks will be available for purchase at the restaurant and bar.

Cleanliness and sanitation

Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club has increased our disinfection measures and has implemented more frequent cleaning of commonly used areas and surfaces during active business hours.

The waiting room, lounge, and other occupied areas will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between groups. Cleaning logs will be maintained by staff at all times.

Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the facility, including at the entrance when checking-in.

Curlers will be provided with wipes for sanitizing their own curling rock handles prior to beginning play (or at the option of the individual league, designated volunteers will be allowed to sanitize all handles prior to players entering the ice shed).

Health assessment

As required by Province of Manitoba Health Orders, proof of full COVID-19 immunication must be presented to gain entry to AMCC. The verification process for for full-time curlers is under development, and will be communicated later in September. Vaccination status will not be asked for, collected, or stored as part of the member registration / league sign-up process.

Staff and players have been instructed to stay at home if they are feeling unwell, including if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms: headache, congestion, runny nose, fever, chills and/or body aches. We respectfully ask our curlers and spectators to avoid entering Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club if they are experiencing any of the same symptoms, if someone in their household is ill, or if they believe they have been exposed to someone who is ill.

Any curler or guest who experiences (or if anyone in the same individual’s household experiences) any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 shall immediately isolate, notify the Club, and not attend any of our facilities, activities, programs or services until at least 14 days have passed since those symptoms were last experienced.

As we put the wellness of our community first and foremost, there will be no penalties for cancelling rental events or practice ice on short notice. Likewise, we hope you will understand if your session is cancelled on short notice in the case that our facility staff is affected by illness.

Contact Tracing and Waivers

Non-participating/spectating guests, as well as curlers who are present in the building outside of their respective scheduled game times, will be required to complete a sign-in sheet upon arrival at the club.

New for 2021: All full-time AMCC curlers must be registered through the club’s website. A person’s registration is not considered finalized until full payment of fees due is remitted.

Self-service Online Registration

All members will be able to create a personal account on the AMCC website (www.curlamcc.ca) if he/she has not done so previously. After logging in (after September 2), the member will be presented with the instructions for self-registering (which includes sign-off of all required waivers). Any member completing this process prior to 12:01 am September 18 will receive a $5 discount on his/her fees.

In-person Registration

Members who do not have the ability to navigate the website may register in-person by:

  • Attending the club’s Open House day (September 18), or
  • Visiting the Club Manager during designated office hours (September 18 - 30).

A legal parent / guardian is to complete the process (using the “Youth” form) for any children under the age of 18. One form may be submitted for multiple children.

The following payment methods are available to all members:

  • Online: PayPal (only for members who self-register through the website), E-transfer
  • In-person: debit / credit card (preferred), cheque, cash

Non-Member Waiver Submission Process

Any person who is not registered as a full-time curler at AMCC may not enter the ice shed without first submitting Waiver of Liability / Assumption of Risk documents.

  • Electronic sign-off may be provided by visiting curlamcc.ca and clicking the Non-member Waivers link on the home page.
  • Paper waivers may be obtained from and returned to the Club Manager’s office or Bar.
A $5 service fee will be charged for the use of paper waivers. This fee is necessary to cover expenses associated with electronically filing and retaining these documents to be retrieved if required at a later date.

Submission of waivers is only required once per curler, per season.

All practice ice must be booked and confirmed with the Club Manager at least 12 hours in advance. Requests submitted after 7:00 pm shall only be submitted by leaving a voicemail on the cliub's main phone number, or by using the website contact form - please do not send text messages to the Club Manager after this time. Walk-up requests for ice time may not be allowed.

We appreciate that parts of your experience at Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club will be a little different than they were before, however, we all must do our part to ensure that we can enjoy a full 2021-22 curling season together. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding and look forward to seeing you at Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club.

The AMCC Board of Directors wishes to thank:

  • MTS Iceplex management for allowing our Return to Play Committee to re-use parts of their Health and Safety statement on our website.
  • Curling Canada and CurlManitoba for providing their Return to Play Guidelines, and reviewing with affiliated cliubs via webcast.
  • The numerous curling clubs across Canada and the United States that our Return to Play Committee borrowed related content from to produce our working plan and documents.
