President's Message

It’s hard to believe that the festive season is upon us once again.  I am pleased to update you on exciting events we will be hosting and reflect on the efforts of many involved with our curling club so far this season.

To start with, I would like to remind you of upcoming curling events at our club.  From December 12 until December 14th we are hosting the Manitoba Curling Tour Championship.  This will quickly be followed by the 2015 Provincial Junior Curling Championship 26 – 31 December 2014.  I highly encourage you to pop by the club during this time to witness some great curling action.  Later in the season the Club will be hosting the Provincial and National Stick Championships.  Thanks in advance to the many volunteers for delivering first class events to the AMCC.

As far as the curling club itself is concerned, it is very gratifying to see that the recent additions of a dehumidifier, chiller and accessibility upgrades are all working splendidly.  Many thanks go out to Eric Montford for providing the club with a new water heater in a time of need.  Upcoming projects include the purchase of a new glass washer for the bar, the ongoing purchase and refinishing of chairs and tables as well as the refurbishing of our curling rocks.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few individuals for their hard work to date.  To begin with I would like to thank Matt and his crew for providing us with excellent ice and making our club the talk of the town.  I would like to thank Cindy and her staff for keeping us well hydrated before, during and after our games.  If you haven’t checked out the restaurant please bring your appetites and do so.  Vance and his staff are doing a great job in the kitchen providing us with an expanded menu and longer hours for your convenience.  Thanks go out to Sonny Isaac; her assistants, Theresa Bouchard and Nicole Wilkinson and the many volunteers for developing the youth program to truly remarkable levels.  You can tell the kids are having a blast by seeing the smiles on their faces.

I would also like to thank the members of the board.  These are all volunteers dedicating their time and effort into making this a top notch curling facility.  In case you haven’t had the opportunity to meet them, the current board members include:  Al Serendynski, Barry Mandryk, Brian Dagg, Bruce Burton, Bruce Wilkinson, Dorothy Hollins, Elsie Rosler, Lorna Wildeman, Lorne Gregorash, Loyd Olson and Matt Rankine.  You too can make a difference by joining the Board of Directors at some point in the future.

Lastly I would like to thank our hardworking club manager, Paul Batchelor, for ensuring that everything  pertaining to club operations flows smoothly.

In closing I wish you all the best of the season and health and happiness in the New Year.

Horst Wuerfel

President
